SAN DIEGO - The 10 new faces on the Aztec Women's Lacrosse team consists of seven true freshmen and three transfers.
"I love this class, they are very hard working and they bring depth to every position on a young but talented roster. I like bringing in new athletes from all over the country, with a mix of backgrounds, skills, and philosophies, so that they can learn from each other," Head Coach Kylee White explained. "They arrived this fall confident and ready to compete with our returners. They came ready to go, not shying away from competition, but bringing it to another level. They're passionate about this team, lacrosse and SDSU."
#4 Macie Buell – 5'1" | Midfield | Long Beach, Calif. | Los Alamitos HS
Earning one varsity letter at Los Alamitos, Buell was named her team's MVP in 2022 and 2023. She was also named first-team all academic for all four years. At SDSU, Buell plans to major in Communications and minor in public health. Her hobbies include surfing, shopping, hiking, traveling, and reading. Buell lists her favorite athlete as Alex Morgan.
#5 Bella Tan – 5'7" | Attack | Lutherville Timonium, Md. | Notre Dame Preparatory School
Tan earned two varsity letters at Notre Dame Preparatory, which was ranked in the Top 25 Women's National High School Rankings from 2020-2023. She helped her team to two semifinal games in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland (IAAM). Tan also played for Hero's Lacrosse Club from 2016 to 2020, where the 2023 class was the #1 ranked team in the nation for five years. She was also a part of the American Select 2020 team, selected for the Gait Lacrosse All Star Team in 2021, selected for the Apex Lacrosse Top Player Showcase in 2022. Along with lacrosse, Tan competed in cross country and track and field throughout highschool. Her sister, Lexi, played lacrosse for the Aztecs from 2019-2022. At SDSU, Tan will be majoring in Business Administration - Marketing. Her hobbies include cooking, traveling, shopping, and hanging out with her friends. Tan lists her favorite athlete as Justin Tucker.
#6 Liv Tramontana – 5'7" | Defense | Weymouth, Mass. | Severna Park HS
Earning three varsity letters at Severna Park, Tramontana and the rest of the Falcons were Maryland 3A State Runners up in 2022, and Champions in 2023. She earned an All County Honorable Mention in 2022 and in 2023 was named team captain, to All County Second team, and was the Minds in Motion Scholar Athlete Award Recipient. Tramontana was also a member of National Honors Society, Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society, and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Along with Lacrosse, she was a guard for the basketball team for three years. At SDSU, Tramontana plans to major in Political Science. Her hobbies include reading, listening to music, boating, and spending time with family and friends. Tramontana lists Tom Brady as her favorite athlete.
#8 Jordan Dobin – 5'2" | Defense | Ocean Township, N.J. | Ocean Township HS
Dobin earned four varsity letters at Ocean Township, where the team made it to the second round of state. She was named to the All Shore Second team, played in the all-star senior game, and was a part of the futures program. Dobin also lettered in field hockey, where the team won the division twice. At SDSU, she plans to major in Communications. Dobin lists Michael Jordan as her favorite athlete.
#10 Sophia Miller – 5'7" | Midfield | Severna Park, Md. | Severna Park HS
Earning four varsity letters at Severna Park, Miller and the rest of the Falcons were Maryland 3A State Runners up in 2022, and Champions in 2023. She was her team's captain in 2023 and was named First Team All-County and an Academic All American. In her senior year, Miller had 18 goals, six assists, 11 caused turnovers, 15 ground balls and 58 draw controls. She played soccer all four years of high school. At SDSU, Miller plans to major in Business. She lists her favorite athlete as Michael Phelps.
#13 Megan McDevitt – 5'3" | Midfield | Portland, Ore. | Grant HS
McDevitt earned four varsity letters at Grant where in 2023 they were State Semi-Finalists. She was named All League First Team in 2021, 2022, and 2023, All State First Team in 2023, Portland League Player of the Year in 2023, the 2023 Oregon All State Player of the Year, and was her team's captain in 2022 and 2023. McDevitt led the state in goals in 2022 with 95 goals. She also lettered in soccer all four years and was named All League Second team in 2023. At SDSU, McDevitt plans to major in Kinesiology - Pre-Physical Therapy. She lists Alex Morgan as her favorite athlete.
#15 Frankie Garcia – 5'6" | Attack | Newport Beach, Calif. | Corona Del Mar HS
Garcia earned four varsity letters at Corona Del Mar, where the team was the 2021 CIF Champions. She was named All-League MVP and Sunset League MVP in 2023, and All-League First Team in 2022 and 2023. Garcia holds her school's record for goals and assists and surpassed 200 goals in her high school career. At SDSU, she plans to major in Interior Architecture.
"I am so excited about our three transfers this year," Coach White exclaimed. "Jackie learned a lot in her red shirt year at Drexel. She came in playing like an experienced player and she's confident in her defensive 1v1 skills. She fits right in and is going to make an impact right away. Molly is a feisty force to be reckoned with defensively. She's extremely competitive and her presence will be a great addition to our defense. Jenna was a consistent contributor at UMBC. In the course of the fall, i've seen her confidence grow and I think she has the ability to be a game changer, be our secret weapon. Her experience and maturity will be very helpful to this younger, less experienced team."
#2 Jackie Heinerichs – 5'2" | Defense | Havertown, Pa. | The Agnes Irwin School | Drexel
Coming to the Aztecs from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Heinerichs utilized her redshirt season as the Dragons obtained the program's third consecutive NCAA Tournament bid. At the Agnes Irwin School she earned four varsity letters and was named 2021 and 2022 All-Delco Team, All-Mainline Team, All-Central League Team, and PASLA All-Academic Team. Heinerichs was also listed under 2021 Philadelphia Lead Scorers, selected as 2022 Pansini Law Group Scholar-Athlete, 2021 Lacrosse MVP, Member of the 2020 All-America Philadelphia Highlight Team and the 2020 Ultimate Lacrosse Elite Team. Aside from lacrosse, she was also a part of varsity field hockey and basketball for three seasons. Heinerichs was the Winner of the Agnes Irwin 3- sports Athlete Award, a member of Best Buddies and Athletes Helping Athletes, a youth soccer, field hockey, and lacrosse referee, and graduated high school with Highest Honors, being inducted into the Cum Laude Society. At SDSU, she will be majoring in Television, Film, and New Media. Her hobbies include running, listening to music, surfing, editing movies, and making music. Heinerichs lists Simone Biles as her favorite athlete.
#14 Molly Malone – 5'1" | Defense | Manasquan, N.J. | Red Bank Catholic HS | Duquesne
Joining the Aztecs from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Malone appeared in nine games for the Dukes' 2023 season while drawing six starts. She totaled 11 ground balls, two draw controls, and one caused turnover, with a season high four ground balls against VCU (4/1). At Red Bank Catholic, where she earned four varsity letters, she helped lead the team to a divisional title in 2019, as well as an appearance in both the conference and state finals. Malone was awarded US HS All-American, All-Conference First Team, All-Division First Team, All-County First Team, Defender of the year, the Heart Award, and was her school's Rookie of the Year. She had 20 goals, 55 draw controls and 100 ground balls throughout her high school career. Along with lacrosse, Malone also played field hockey and ran cross country and track for two years. At SDSU, she will be majoring in Political Science and plans to be a Corporate Contract Lawyer. Her hobbies include strolling, cooking, listening to music, photography, surfing, and writing. Malone lists Dennis Rodman as her favorite athlete.
#24 Jenna McDermott – 5'6" | Midfield | Westminster, Md. | South Carroll HS | UMBC
Deciding to utilize her fifth year of eligibility at SDSU, McDermott spent her undergrad time at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County where she appeared in 44 games, starting in all 14 games her senior year. In total, she scored 46 points with 13 assists and 33 goals, three of which were game winners. McDermott had 14 ground balls and seven caused turnovers and in 2023 was named the team's unsung hero. The team made the conference tournament in 2020, 2021, and 2022. Back at South Carroll, she earned four varsity letters in both lacrosse and field hockey. McDermott was a two-year All-County Second Team selection and was the lacrosse team captain for two years. In 2019, she captained both teams all the way to being state champions. She is a member of the National Honors Society. McDermott earned her degree in Psychology from UMBC where she was a valedictorian candidate, and now will be working towards a masters in Public Policy at SDSU. She enjoys reading, and lists her favorite athlete as Sydney McLaughlin.
