SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State men's tennis team will take the road for the first time this spring when it heads to Irvine, Calif., to face the Anteaters of UC Irvine at noon on Saturday, January 27.
San Diego State (2-0) began the season with home wins over Brigham Young (4-3) and Sacramento State (4-1). One of the keys for the Aztecs thus far this season is winning the doubles point, a feat they have accomplished in both matches this spring.
UC Irvine (1-1) has been on both sides of blowouts so far this season. The Anteaters stomped Westcliff 7-0 on January 18 before falling by the same score at No. 7-ranked USC the following day. UC Irvine is hosting Brigham Young at 11 a.m. on Friday before Saturday's match. UCI finished the 2023 season with a 13-8 record. The Aztecs lead the Anteaters with a 15-7 record since 1989 but UC Irvine won 4-0 when the teams last met in 2021.
San Diego State is back on the road next weekend, when it plays at Cal Poly at noon on Saturday, February 3.
