SAN DIEGO – San Diego State opened Mountain West play with a commanding 74-47 win over Fresno State on Wednesday night. The 27-point victory is the second-largest margin of victory for the Aztecs in series history.
The Aztecs (12-2, 1-0 Mountain West) had three scorers in double-figures led by Jaedon LeDee's 21, his eighth 20-point game this season. Micah Parrish and Lamont Butler each added 11 points in the victory. Parrish also pulled down a game high seven rebounds while Butler dished out a game high four assists.
As a team, SDSU shot 53% from the field while holding Fresno State to 35% shooting. The Aztecs also dominated the glass, 39-28 with 31 coming on the defensive end.
Fresno State (7-7, 0-1 MW) put points on the board first, but the Scarlet and Black responded with a 9-0 run to put them in front by eight. From there, SDSU never looked back taking a 13-point lead into halftime.
Similar to how the night started, the Bulldogs scored first coming out of the break, but the Aztecs responded with another huge scoring run to give themselves a 20-point advantage by the first media timeout of the second half.
The lead never dropped below 20 the rest of the night as the Aztecs cruised to a 74-47 win for their ninth consecutive victory over Fresno State.
It also marks the largest margin of victory over the Bulldogs since Jan 6, 1940, the second-ever meeting between the two programs.
