SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Aztecs Going Pro (AGP) Program is pleased to welcome 16 student-athletes to the inaugural AGP Summer Internship. The AGP Summer Internship Program is a paid, eight-week internship opportunity designed exclusively for student-athletes at SDSU. The goal of the program is to provide student-athletes with professional and transferable work experience by allowing them to intern in one of the various offices of the San Diego State Athletics Department.

"We are grateful for the support of many of our generous donors and supporters who have graciously sponsored summer internships," Danielle Kelly, Associate Athletic Director in Student-Athlete Development, said. "This generosity has allowed us to create a robust summer internship program that provides our student-athletes a professional internship that accommodates their demanding training schedules. Our AGP internship program allows them the flexibility they need to gain practical experience that will make them more competitive as they look to prepare for life after sport. We look forward to tracking the progress and growth of our 15 student-athletes this summer who will be working in 13 different departments in athletics.  I am very proud of how prepared our student-athletes were in the application and interview process showcasing the skills they have learned in our Aztecs Going Pro Course."

SDSU Athletics is excited about the Aztecs Going Pro initiative to engage with this diverse and talented demographic who often miss traditional career development opportunities because of their demanding schedules, but typically possess the qualities that professionals are looking for in future employees.

"The Aztecs Going Pro program is one of my top priorities in our Athletic Department, because it's critical we provide our student-athletes the opportunity to prepare for life after SDSU and their sport," John David Wicker, SDSU's Director of Athletics, said. "Our new robust AGP Internship Program will provide student-athletes with a flexible and paid professional development experience that will help prepare them for their professional journey."

The internship is structured for student-athletes to work an average of 20 hours per week over the course of 8 weeks from July 3rd through August 25th, allowing flexible hours based on their athletic training schedules.

"This is my first internship, and I am looking forward to learning the inner workings of how SDSU positively develops their student-athletes," sophomore pole vaulter Ashley Callahan explained. "Aiding the personal growth and career development of athletes is a passion of mine and I want to create a lasting impact on SDSU's Athletics Department."

"I am thrilled to be receiving the Aztec Going Pro Summer Internship," Evonne Stehr of the swim and dive team said. "I look forward to continuing the Aztec tradition of fundraising and developing the athletics department. Particularly, I'm excited for this new chapter of experience outside of being an athlete."
