SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's basketball team (23-10) has been invited to play in the WNIT, giving SDSU their first postseason appearance in 10 years.
SDSU's first game will be March 15, 16 or 17. Their opponent, site and date of the game will be revealed along with the entire WNIT bracket Monday morning.
Behind the best defense in the Mountain West, SDSU tied for third in the conference and totaled 23 wins, both of which are the program's best since the 2012-13 season.
This is the 13th time that SDSU has played in the postseason and third time they have played in the WNIT.
The Aztecs advanced to the 1989 WNIT championship game after wins over Radford (99-92, 2 OT) and Murray State (97-81). SDSU lost in the championship game to Oregon 67-64.
The Aztecs' last WNIT appearance was 2013 where they beat UC Santa Barbara 69-46 at home before losing at BYU 69-58.
