RIVERSIDE, Calif. – San Diego State's Valentina Lopez Arevalo completed a weekend sweep of event titles at the Riverside Collegiate Invitational after winning the platform and 3-meter springboard competition on Saturday at Riverside Aquatics Center.
Lopez Arevalo surpassed NCAA Zone qualifying standards in both events, notching a season-best 299.95 points on the platform to go with an effort of 294.80 points in the finals of the 3-meter springboard. With her performances, the Aztec junior has taken home seven individual crowns this fall.
All six of SDSU's divers placed among the top 10 in the platform, including the trio of Taylor Konopacke (231.40 pts), Alina Skrocki (228.65 pts) and Jules Harrison (226.40 pts), all of whom set NCAA Zone qualifying marks, finishing fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively. Additionally, Konopacke's score marked a career best, while the latter two competitors tallied season-high totals.
Meanwhile, Olivia Zamudio (216.05 pts) and Summer Westmoreland (188.95 pts) rounded out the Aztec delegation in the event, placing eighth and ninth, respectively.
In the finals of the 3-meter competition, SDSU grabbed the top six spots, including Lopez Arevalo's aforementioned victory. Not to be outdone, Skrocki (291.95 pts) and Harrison (288.30 pts) followed closely in succession with NCAA Zone qualifying scores of their own, while Zamudio (264.95 pts) finished in fourth, with all three divers logging season-high figures.
Elsewhere, Westmoreland (250.25 pts) and Konopacke (243.10) placed fifth and sixth in the event, respectively, with the latter posting a season best as well.
Along with the Aztecs, the two-day meet featured divers from the University of San Diego and California Baptist.
After a break for final exams, San Diego State will return to the competition pool with a full squad on Tuesday, Dec. 19, when it plays host to Air Force in a dual meet at Aztec Aquaplex, starting at 10 a.m. PT. Admission is free.
