SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's basketball team (4-4) fell to No. 3/3 Stanford 85-54 inside Viejas Arena Friday afternoon playing in front of 3,708 fans for their annual field trip game.
"I was proud of our effort today," Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson said after the game. "The crowd was great, and it's always energizing to play in front of 3,700 fans and I hope we gained a few fans."
SDSU was led in scoring by Adryana Quezada, who had 12 points. Kim Villalobos chipped in 10 points and Sarah Barcello tied a career-high with seven rebounds.
The Cardinal raced out to a 13-0 lead to start the game. The Aztecs then weathered the storm and finished the first quarter on a 6-0 run. SDSU would pull within eight points early in the second quarter, before Stanford went on a 14-0 run and then led by double-digits for the remainder of the game.
Stanford was led by Cameron Brink's 25 points and 12 rebounds.
The Aztecs held the Cardinal to 31 percent shooting from three (9-29).
THE NOTE
This was the first time a top three team has played in Viejas Arena since 2007 (UConn).
