SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women's tennis team opened the Fall Classic II on Friday at the Aztec Tennis Center. Six Aztecs played singles and doubles matches.
Gloria Alogo faced Oregon's Uxia Martinez Moral. Alogo picked up a 6-3 first set win. The second was closer but the Aztec ended up on top 7-5.
Looking for her first win since September, Rania Azziz found what she was looking for in a 7-5, 6-3 straight set win over Colorado's Mila Stanojevic.
Zoe Olmos went up against Colorado State's Sarah Weekley. She won in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.
San Diego State's wins leader so far this fall, Andreea Velcea drew Colorado State's Victoria Erechtchenko. Velcea was bested 6-3, 6-2.
The top-rated player in the SDSU lineup, Andjela Skrobonja dropped the first set to Nevada's Amahee Charrier 7-6 before she was forced to retire from the match due to an injury.
In doubles, Skrobonja and Alogo battled Colorado's Aya El Sayed and Pia Rebec but ended up on the wrong side of a 6-3 score.
Velcea and Olmos faced UC San Diego's Katelyn Vu and Ella Pachl. The Aztecs struggled to get much going as they fell 6-1.
Myah Petchey was supposed to play singles as well as doubles with Azziz but was unable to play due to an illness.
