Aztecs Knock Off Penn 74-49

SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's basketball team (4-2) cruised to a 74-49 win over Penn at Viejas Arena Saturday afternoon. SDSU held the Quakers to 25 shooting and never trailed in the game.

This was the Aztecs' fourth straight win and their third consecutive game holding their opponent under 50 points.

"We had great effort and a good defensive mindset today," Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson said after the game. "Penn is a very good team and our primary emphasis for this game was our defense and I was really proud of the effort on that end."

The Aztecs had three players in double-figures, led by Adryana Quezada's 21. Quezada also led the team in rebounds (9) and assists (5), which tied a career-high.

Meghan Fiso scored a career-high 15 points on 5-for-6 shooting and was a perfect 3-for-3 from three. Sarah Barcello had her highest scoring output as an Aztec with 13 points.

The Aztecs jumped out to a 13-2 lead and then held the lead for the entire game behind stifling defense. SDSU held Penn to 6-for-27 shooting in the first half and forced the Quakers to miss 12 of their first 13 three-pointers.

Penn started the heat up in the third quarter, but the Aztecs kept their foot on the gas pedal and made six of the final seven shots of the third and took a 24-point lead into the final quarter.

The Aztecs were 7-for-13 from three and 13-for-16 from the line.

Penn was led by Stina Almqvist's 24 points.

SDSU was 50 percent from the floor while holding the Quakers to 25 percent.

THE NOTE
Adryana Quezada has scored in double-digits in five of SDSU's six games.
