Aztecs Outlast Westcliff 64-42

SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's basketball team (3-2) outlasted Westcliff 64-42 inside Viejas Arena Tuesday evening. After a slow start, SDSU outscored the Warriors 37-12 in the second half.

"Westcliff came in and punched us in the face in the first half," Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson said after the game. "I am proud of how we responded in the second half. We showed resilience and we played our style of basketball."

The Aztecs continued to display balanced scoring with four players in double-figures led by their posts Kim Villalobos and Adryana Quezada, who each had 15 points. Quezada was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field.

Meghan Fiso (11) and Abby Prohasaka (10) also scored in double-digits.

The first half was tightly contested and tied at the end of the first half quarter. The Aztecs went cold in the second half, allowing Westcliff to go up by as much as seven points, before holding a three-point lead at the halftime break.

The Aztec defense tightened up in the third quarter, helping fuel a 17-2 SDSU run as the Aztecs went up double-digits entering the final quarter. Sarah Barcello had eight points in the pivotal third quarter.

SDSU pieced together another big run in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.

The Aztecs had assists on 19 of their 25 field goals.

STAT OF THE GAME
The Aztecs held the Warriors to 12 points and five field goals in the second half.

THE NOTE
Sophomore guard Natalija Grizelj made the first field goal of her collegiate career late in the game.
