SAN DIEGO – San Diego State, in conjunction with the Mountain West, released its national broadcast schedule for the 2023-24 men's basketball campaign on Tuesday. Highlighting the 18-game slate are three which are set to air on CBS and one on Fox. The Aztecs' three regular-season Mountain West game appearances on CBS are the most the program has had in a year and the most by any program in the now 25 years of the conference's existence.
For the season, SDSU will play on CBS Sports Network (CBSSN) 11 times, on FS1 six times, on CBS three times and once on Fox. Along with the broadcast schedule, the league revealed game day shifts to accommodate its television partners. The Aztecs have five contests affected: home games vs. Fresno State (moved to Wednesday, Jan. 3), Nevada (moved to Wednesday, Jan. 17), New Mexico (moved to Friday, Feb. 16) and Boise State (moved to Friday, March 8), as well as a road game at Nevada (moved to Friday, Feb. 9).
Two of the three games on CBS are on the road: at New Mexico on Saturday, January 13, and a week later, on Saturday, January 20 at Boise State (11 a.m. MT). The third game on CBS, against UNLV on Saturday Jan. 6 (1 p.m. PT), is being contested at Viejas Arena. The program's game on Fox is on Saturday, Feb. 3 against Utah State at 12:30 p.m. PT at Steve Fisher Court.
The Aztecs' first five appearances on CBS Sports Network begins against Stanford (Thursday, Dec. 21 at 6 p.m. PT) at Viejas Arena. The team's next appearance on the network will be on Tuesday, January 9 at 8 p.m. PT at San Jose State, then versus Nevada on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 8 p.m. PT, against Wyoming on Tuesday Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. PT, and at Colorado State on Tuesday, January 30.
CBSSN will then broadcast six of seven games starting on Friday, February 9, at Nevada at 5 p.m. PT. Four days later, on Tuesday, February 13 at 6 p.m. PT, SDSU hosts Colorado State and two games after that, at 7 p.m. MT on Tuesday, February 20, the team will be at Utah State, which begins a run of four straight on CBS Sports Network. Following its trip to Logan, Utah, the team is in Fresno, Calif., on Saturday, February 24, to play Fresno State, then home, on Tuesday, February 27, against San Jose State at 8 p.m. PT, and finally at UNLV on Tuesday, March 5. While CBS and CBS Sports Network have selected its games to broadcast, no game times were announced for either.
The games that will be on FS1 are the regular-season opener against Cal State Fullerton (Monday, Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. PT), versus UC Irvine (Saturday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. PT), conference opener vs. Fresno State (Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 7:30 p.m. PT), at Air Force (Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 8:30 p.m. MT), vs. New Mexico (Friday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. PT), and the regular-season finale vs. Boise State (Friday, March 8 at 7 p.m. PT).
In addition to the Mountain West's announcement, the Aztecs' games at Brigham Young (Friday, Nov. 10), vs. Saint Mary's at the Continental Tires Main Event (Friday, Nov. 17, 6:30 p.m. PT), at UC San Diego (Friday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. PT), and at Grand Canyon (Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. MT) will be shown on ESPN+. The Aztecs second game at the Continental Tires Main Event (Sunday, Nov. 19) will either be broadcast on ESPN2 or shown on ESPN+, depending on the result of its game against Saint Mary's.
As of October 3, no announcement has been made regarding television broadcasts for the team's game against California at the SoCal Showcase (Saturday, Nov. 25) in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., or at Gonzaga (Friday, Dec. 29), as well as home games vs. Long Beach State (Tuesday, Nov. 14) and St. Katherine (Tuesday, Dec. 19).
For 2023-24, San Diego State returns Final Four hero junior Lamont Butler, fifth-year seniors Darrion Trammell and Jadeon LeDee, and senior Micah Parrish, who comprise four of the top six scorers from last year's team, which reached the program's first national championship game. In 2022-23, San Diego State appeared in the championship game of the Mountain West tournament for the sixth consecutive year and competed in the NCAA tournament for the third straight season.
In addition to the aforementioned players, SDSU returns sophomores Miles Byrd, Demarshay Johnson Jr., and Elijah Saunders, and has added transfers Reese Waters, a junior from Southern California and the reigning Sixth Player of the Year in the Pac-12, as well as Jay Pal, who ranked No. 3 in the Big South in blocks while at Campbell last season. San Diego State also welcomed a pair of four-star recruits in BJ Davis and Miles Heide and signed 7-foot Magoon Gwath from Euless, Texas.
The Aztecs play an exhibition on Monday, October 30, against Cal State San Marcos in Viejas Arena with the regular season opener set for Monday, Nov. 6, also in Viejas against Cal State Fullerton.
