SAN DIEGO – Chikaya Sato and Alexander Mandma, of the San Diego State men's tennis team, finished up at the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic on Sunday at the Hogan Tennis Center on the campus of the University of San Diego (USD). Today, the Aztecs faced off against players from host USD. The two players both won their singles matches while also winning together in doubles to go undefeated on the final day of the three-day tournament.
Coming off a close win in his match yesterday, Mandma drew Christian Kuehne. Mandma took the first set easily, winning 6-1. The second set was competitive and went to a tiebreaker, but Mandma was able to close out Kuehne 7-6 (7-1).
Sato battled Savriyan Danilov. Like his teammate, Sato was able to win in straight sets, although in a more consistent fashion, earning a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
In doubles, the pair faced Blake Kasday and Nikhil Niranjan. The Aztecs won by the same score as yesterday, 6-2.
San Diego State is back in action next weekend in the ITA Southwest Regional Championships in Malibu, Calif. That tournament runs from Thursday, Oct. 19 through Monday, Oct. 23.
