LAS VEGAS – Trinity Zamora of the Aztec women's basketball team was named the Mountain West Preseason Co-Freshman of the Year, the conference office announced Wednesday morning. Additionally, the Aztecs were picked to finish fifth in the preseason poll.

Zamora, a 6'0" guard from Oakland, Calif., scored over 2,000 points and had over 1,400 rebounds as a four-year starter at Piedmont HS. She made the all-state team three times, twice as a first teamer and once as a second teamer.

As a senior, Zamora averaged 19 points, 10 rebounds and six assists and helped her team go undefeated and advance to the Open semifinals. In her junior year, she averaged 25.3 points, 18.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game.

Zamora was named to the All-Bay Area News Group Team in 2022 and 2023, was the WAC Co-Player of the year in 2021 and 2022 and earned the Piedmont Post Athlete of the Year Award in 2020 and 2021.

This is the third time in the last four years that SDSU has had a player named the Mountain West Preseason Co-Freshman of the Year (Asia Avinger in 2020 & 2021).

The Aztecs, who tied for third in the conference last year, are coming off a 23-win season where they had the best defense in the Mountain West and made the WNIT.

UNLV, the reigning regular season, and tournament champions, were picked to finish first, earning 24 of the 27 first place votes.
