SAN DIEGO – The Aztec men's soccer team (3-0-1) won their third straight match in a row with a decisive 3-0 victory over George Washington (2-1-2) on the SDSU Sports Deck Friday evening. The Aztecs have shutout their opponent in all four of their matches this season and their +7 goal differential is their best through four matches since 2015.
"We did an unbelievable job in the second half of playing our way," Head coach Ryan Hopkins said. "I thought we could've scored five or six goals."
Austin Brummett, who made his first start of the season, had a point on every SDSU goal, scoring the first and then assisting the next two.
"He's worked really hard, and I think he's just scratching the surface of what he can do," Hopkins praised.
The Aztecs outshot George Washington 14-11 and held a 10-5 advantage in the second half.
For the second match in a row, SDSU scored in the opening minutes. Brummett was on the receiving end of a failed clearance by the George Washington defense and fired a goal into the bottom left corner of the goal.
In the closing seconds of the first half, Reid Sproat had a shot deflected by a GW defender's hand to set up an Alexander Levengood penalty kick with seven seconds left. However, Levengood's shot was off target to keep the score at 1-0 at the half.
In the 58th minute, Rommee Jaridly finished a Brummett assist to score his second goal in as many games.
A few minutes later, GW's Yago Torres was issued his second yellow card forcing them to play a man down for the final 27 minutes.
In the 74th minute, Reid Fisher scored his first collegiate goal. Following an Owen Zaldivar corner kick, Brummett flicked it to the far side where Ulises Esquivel sent it back into the box where Fisher poked it home. It was the first career point for Esquivel as well.
Goalkeeper Logan Erb had four saves and collected his fourth career shutout in as many starts.

The Aztecs are one of two teams in the nation that haven't conceded a goal this season.
THE NOTE II
This is the first time since 2005 that SDSU hasn't allowed a goal in each of its first four matches.
