LA JOLLA, Calif. – San Diego State women's soccer earned a 3-2 win on the road over UC San Diego at Triton Soccer Stadium on Thursday evening. Kali Trevithick scored her first brace as an Aztec and Trinity Coker also scored in the win to lead the way for SDSU.

UC San Diego (1-3-2) started the match strongly and forced SDSU (4-2-1) keeper Alexa Madueno into two big stops in the opening minutes before the Aztecs settled in. In the 13th minute Emma Gaines-Ramos picked up the ball just outside the box and dribbled inside and around a defender. She then gave the ball off to Trevithick who cut inside along the edge of the box and fired off a shot that flew along the grass and into the bottom right corner of the net to give the Aztecs a 1-0 lead. The goal was Trevithick's first of the season and first as an Aztec.

San Diego State continued to pile on the pressure after getting the first goal. Denise Castro forced a save in the 15th minute before Trinity Coker put the Aztecs up two in the 29th minute. Trevithick went from sorcerer to provider on the goal as she launched a ball across the box from right to left that bounced once, and then found Coker who was crashing the box. The junior from Poway, California gathered the ball with her first touch and then launched it off the crossbar and into the net to give SDSU a 2-0 lead, which they would take into the halftime break.

Both the Aztecs and Tritons would force saves from each keeper in the opening minutes of the second half. For the Aztecs it was Castro who forced back-to-back saves as the Aztecs searched for their third goal of the night. However, it was the Tritons who got one back in the 72nd minute when Talisa Lin scored off a free kick to make it a 2-1 game.

SDSU would respond almost instantly to go up two goals once again. After earning a free kick in the 75th minute, it was Trevithick who got on the scoresheet again, this time off a free kick of her own. With the ball 25 yards from goal Trevithick lined up a shot, fired it over the leaping defenders in the wall, and into the back of the net for her second of the night, giving the Aztecs a 3-1 lead with 14 minutes to play.

UCSD would score a late second in the 86th minute to make it a 3-2 game, but after that the Aztecs kept the ball in the corner and saw out the 3-2 win on Thursday night.

Offensively Castro lead the way with five shots, while Trevithick scored a game-high two goals. Defensively Madueno made three stops in goal for the Aztecs.
