SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's basketball team has released their 2023-24 non-conference schedule. The 12-game slate features eight games against teams that had winning records last season and six against schools that made the postseason. The Aztecs will face five programs who won at least 20 games last season, including perennial national powerhouse Stanford.
SDSU opens the season Nov. 6 at Portland who went 23-9 last season and won the WCC Tournament championship. The Aztecs beat the Pilots 55-53 last season after Sophia Ramos hit a buzzer-beater.
The home opener will be Nov. 10 when SDSU welcomes in California Baptist. The Lancers won the WBI Championship last year and finished 22-13.
The Aztecs then head north to play at Sacramento State Nov. 18. The Hornets went 25-8 in 2022-23 and won the Big Sky Tournament. SDSU beat the Hornets 70-59 in San Diego a year ago behind 20 points from Mercedes Staples.
SDSU then plays five straight home games, beginning with Westcliff Nov. 21. The Aztecs are then co-hosting a tournament with UC San Diego which will see them face Penn Nov. 25 and then UCSD Nov. 28.
The Aztecs welcome in Stanford Dec. 1, the first time the Cardinal have played at SDSU since 2009. Stanford went 29-6 a season ago and 15-3 in the competitive Pac-12.
After a home game against Cal State Los Angeles on Dec. 4, the next four games will be away from Viejas Arena. On Dec. 7, the Aztecs play at San Diego, who made it to the Super 16 of the WNIT a year ago.
On Dec 11, SDSU plays at Seattle, and then the Aztecs will return to the West Palm Beach Invitational where they will take on Providence and UTEP Dec 20 and 21. The Miners won 20 games last season and made the WNIT.
