SAN DIEGO – This weekend, the San Diego State women's tennis team will play at the Aztec Tennis Center for the first time this season when it hosts the SDSU Fall Classic I. Rania Azziz, Myah Petchey and Andreea Velcea will represent the Aztecs in the tournament running from Friday, Sept. 29 through Sunday, Oct. 1. The other schools in the tournament this weekend are CSUN, Grand Canyon, Minnesota and UTEP.

Azziz, a junior from Decines, France, played in nearly every dual match for San Diego State last year and finished above .500 in conference matches. She also logged two three-match winning streaks a season ago.

Velcea excelled in the classroom last year, garnering ITA All-Academic team, Academic All-Mountain West and Mountain West Scholar-Athlete accolades. She also made it all the way to the Finals of last year's Watanabe Classic.

A transfer from Oregon, Petchey will be making her Aztec debut this weekend. She was a regular in the middle of the Ducks lineup.

Azziz and Velcea will also team up to compete in doubles.

Following this weekend's tournament, San Diego State does not compete again until the ITA Southwest Regionals between Thursday, Oct. 19 and Monday, Oct. 23. That tournament will be co-hosted by SDSU and the University of San Diego.
