SAN DIEGO – If Friday's results are any indication, San Diego State swimmers can look forward to another successful campaign in 2023-24 after their dominating performance against the University of San Diego in the annual season-opening pentathlon meet between the two squads at the USD Sports Center Pool.

Although team scores and individual standings were unavailable at press time, the Aztecs won all 11 races and boasted at least the top-four finishers in nine of those competitions.

SDSU was paced by the freshman duo of Reka Nyiradi and Trine Forss, who each won three events.

A native of Budapest, Hungary, Nyiradi began the day with a victory in the 100 freestyle, touching the wall at 51.86, as the Scarlet and Black claimed the top 12 places in the competition. She also emerged triumphant in the 100 butterfly, clocking in at 58.06, before wrapping up the day with another win in the 400 individual medley at 4:28.55.

Forss, who hails from Skövde, Sweden, was victorious in the 100 backstroke, completing the race at 58.44, before capturing a pair of titles in the 50 fly (26.47) and 50 back (27.51).

Mai McKenna was also a double winner for the Aztecs, posting the fastest times in the 100 individual medley (59.61) and 50 breast (29.98) before placing second behind Nyiradi in the 400 IM (4:37.16).

Not to be outdone, SDSU additionally received a trio of victorious performances from Christiana Williams in the 100 breast (1:04.06), Paige Mitchell in the 500 free (5:14.40) and Rachel Hubka in the 50 free (24.08). After spending her first three seasons at USD, Hubka transferred to San Diego State over the summer.

The Aztecs will return to the pool on Friday, Sept. 29, when they travel to the Central Coast for a dual meet against Cal Poly, starting at noon PT. SDSU will remain in San Luis Obispo the following day for a double dual vs. the same Mustang squad and Fresno Pacific, beginning at 10 a.m.
