SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State men's tennis program announced two new additions for the 2023-24 roster. The Aztecs added two graduate transfers who spent four years at their prior programs: Matt Che from Notre Dame and Robin Parts from Wisconsin.
Che, a native of Tenafly, New Jersey, played towards the top of the Fighting Irish lineup and led Notre Dame to NCAA Tournament bids in 2021 and 2022. The top moment of his senior season was a singles win over No. 51-ranked Virginia Tech on March 10. Before playing collegiately, Che was a five-star recruit who was ranked as the top player in New Jersey and a top ten player in the Mid-Atlantic region on the back of his Round of 16 appearance at the USTA Boys 18s in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Parts is from Tallinn, Estonia, which is also the hometown of his new teammate Alexander Mandma. Prior to coming to the United States to play at Wisconsin, Parts attended Audentes Sports Gymnasium, the same school as Mandma and Johannes Seeman, who led the way for the Scarlet and Black last season. Parts is known for strong play in both singles and doubles, having earned eight singles wins during each of the past two dual seasons and double-digit singles wins in two of his four seasons in Madison, Wisc. He played all over the Badger doubles lineup, posting at least eight wins in all three spots over the last two seasons while also winning 18 or more matches both seasons.
San Diego State will begin its fall season in the USTA Pro Futures event Sept. 25-26 and the ITA All-American Championships Sept. 30-Oct 5.
