SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- San Diego State juniors Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) and Shea Lague (Jamul, Calif./Steele Canyon HS) sit in first and second, respectively, to lead the Aztec men's golf team through two rounds of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate Saturday in Scottsdale, Arizona.
 
A day after tying a school record with a 62 at the par-71, 7,118-yard Mirabel Golf Club, Hastings fired a 6-under 65 in today's second round and leads the 75-man field at 15-under. Hastings had seven birdies and a lone bogey in today's 65, his only bogey through 36 holes.
 
Lague, meanwhile, is a stroke back of Hastings in solo second at 14-under. Lague set a collegiate best with a 63 today (-8), notching nine birdies, including five straight from the first through fifth holes on his back nine (SDSU started on the 10th hole), and just one bogey.
 
Four others - Owen Avrit (Oregon), Joseph Lloyd (Fresno State), Neal Shipley (Ohio State) and Zach Kingsland (SMU) - are tied for third at 12-under.
 
Sophomore Tyler Kowack (Del Mar, Calif./La Jolla HS) carded a 1-under 70 today and is tied for 21st through two days at -6. Sophomore Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) bettered his 70 with a 3-under 68 today and is tied for 28th at -4, while junior Jack Townsend (San Diego/Charter School of San Diego) is tied for 66th overall at +4.
 
San Diego State teamed up for a 18-under 266 today and gained one stroke on Auburn (-41), entering tomorrow's final round in solo second at 39-under 529. Fresno State (-32), SMU (-31) and Ohio State (-26) round out the top five.
 
Three other SDSU golfers finished up their play in the Maui Jim Individual on the par-72 Legend Trail course in Scottsdale. Senior Skyler Ngo (Las Vegas) took 22nd overall at 1-under 215, while freshman Nathan Sampson (Temecula, Calif.) tied for 29th at +3 and junior Rugthai Thongsom (Surat Thani, Thailand) came in 33rd at +16.
