SAN DIEGO – The Aztec men's soccer team (1-0-1) shut out Cal State Bakersfield (0-1-1) 1-0 after Lorenzo Hernandez scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute Monday evening on the SDSU Sports Deck.

"Early in the season, everyone is trying to figure out who they are and how their pieces work together. If we can continue to learn and grow while winning, those are the signs of a good team and I think we are a good team," Head coach Ryan Hopkins said after the game.

Each team had 11 shots, but it was the Aztecs who were constantly putting the Roadrunners in tough spots and after a slow start, SDSU held CSUB without a shot on goal for the final 66 minutes.

There were multiple scoring opportunities for SDSU, mostly on counter-attacks, but they couldn't find the back of the net until the 82nd minute. On a Jules Anderson corner kick, Austin Brummett played it back to Anderson who sent a low liner into the box. Reid Fisher smartly let the ball go through his legs to Lorenzo Hernandez who poked it in for his first collegiate goal.

Prior to the goal, the Aztecs best look came in the 67th minute when Noah Crétier sent a rocket into the box following a deflection on a corner where the CSUB goalkeeper made a diving stop to his right.

Goalkeeper Logan Erb, who was making his second career start, had two saves while recording the clean sheet.
