SAN DIEGO – Aztec head women's soccer coach Mike Friesen has released San Diego State's 2023 schedule. The 19-match schedule features 10 contests at the SDSU Sports Deck, a match at Snapdragon Stadium, and eight road matches this fall.
After a home exhibition against UC Riverside on August 12, the Aztecs will open the 2023 season with four-straight home matches. San Diego State will open the season against Sacred Heart on August 17, followed by UTEP on August 20 in their first weekend of action. The Aztecs have never faced either Sacred Heart or UTEP.
SDSU will wrap up their first homestand the following weekend when they take on Pepperdine on August 24 and Long Beach State on August 27. Pepperdine leads the series 9-3, while the Aztecs are 5-5-2 all-time against the Beach.
San Diego State will then head to the pacific northwest to take on Washington State out of the PAC-12 for their first match away from home in 2023 on August 31. The Aztecs lead the all-time series 3-2 with the most recent matchup coming back in 2021.
SDSU will remain in Washington to begin the month of September, when they take on Eastern Washington on September 3. The Aztecs and Eagles have played each other once before, a 3-0 win for SDSU back in 2001.
After the trip to Washington, the Aztecs return home to San Diego for the remainder of their non-conference slate. San Diego State will play across town at UC San Diego on September 7, and then will host USD at Snapdragon Stadium to wrap up their non-conference schedule.
Following the match at Snapdragon Stadium, the Scarlet and Black will open Mountain West Conference play with two road matches. The Aztecs will open conference play at Fresno State on September 21, followed by a match at the reigning Mountain West tournament champions, San Jose State on September 24. The Aztecs beat both squads during the regular season last year at home and are an impressive 30-7-5 all-time against the two schools.
San Diego State will return home for a four-match homestand after visiting central and northern California. The Aztecs will host Air Force on September 28 to wrap up the month of September, followed by Colorado College on October 1 to begin October. SDSU is a 29-5-4 all-time against Air Force and Colorado College and earned a win and a tie last season against the two teams. A week later Boise State and Utah State will travel to America's finest city on October 5 and 8 respectively. Under Friesen the Aztecs have won 17 games in 27 total matches against the two schools.
Following the four-match homestand the Aztecs will head to the Silver State to face UNLV in Las Vegas on October 12, and Nevada in Reno on October 15. SDSU will then play their second-to-last home match on October 19 against Wyoming, who won a share of the Mountain West regular season title in 2022.
The Aztecs will then play their final road match of the 2023 season at Colorado State on October 22, before wrapping up the regular season at home against New Mexico.
The Mountain West tournament is scheduled for Oct. 30 – Nov. 5 in Laramie, Wyoming.
