SAN DIEGO – Head women's basketball coach Stacie Terry-Hutson has announced the signing of Sania Wells, a graduate transfer from Auburn. Wells, a 5'7" point guard, appeared in 106 games while making 34 starts across four years for the Tigers.
"Sania is a dynamic guard who can do a little bit of everything," Terry-Hutson explained. "She is very athletic and an elite defender who will contribute immediately. She has an infectious personality and hit it off with her teammates on her visit and will be a great fit for the program."
Sania (suh-NIGH-uh) Wells, a native of Moss Point, Miss., averaged 6.4 points in 18.3 minutes per game as a senior last year.
In the 2021-22 season, Wells started 25 games and averaged a career-high 9.0 points and 2.6 assists while playing 28.7 minutes per game. She had 70 assists and just 45 turnovers while shooting 90.5 percent from the free throw line, which led the SEC and ranked seventh nationally.
"I chose SDSU because I knew I would be happy both on and off the court," Wells said. "I felt comfortable with the whole staff and got along with the team so well. I feel I can grow in basketball and in life here and it's hard not to fall in love with San Diego."
At East Central High School (Hurley, Miss.) was named to the Sun Herald All-South Mississippi Team three times. As a senior, she averaged 27 points, five rebounds and four steals per game and was named the Mississippi State Player of the Year. As a junior, she averaged 25 points, seven rebounds, six assists and six steals.
Wells is set to graduate with a degree in psychology from Auburn and will pursue a master's degree at San Diego State.
Wells joins incoming freshmen Mia Davis, Alyssa Jackson and Trinity Zamora as newcomers to SDSU next year. The Aztecs had their best season in a decade last season, going 23-11 and making the WNIT.
