SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego State men's volleyball team won the university's first and only NCAA title 50 years ago today on May 26, 1973.
In the championship, the Aztecs downed Long Beach State, 3-1 (11-15, 15-13, 15-8, 15-6) at the San Diego Sports Arena (now the Pechanga Arena).
SDSU finished with a 33-8 record in the 1973 campaign, a year after finishing runner-up to UCLA.
The 1973 team was inducted into the Aztec Hall of Fame in 2003. Two players from the 1973 squad are also in the Aztec Hall of Fame in Chris Marlowe (1994) and Duncan McFarland (1997), as is head coach Jack Henn (2021).
