SAN DIEGO – Casey Schmitt's (2018-20) wild first week in the big leagues led five former Aztecs in the MLB while Jalen McDaniels (2017-19) played in the NBA Playoffs and Scott Piercy (1999-2001) finished in the top 20 in the AT&T Byron Nelson on the PGA Tour. 
 
In a historic first week in the MLB, Schmitt started all seven games for San Francisco, with five at shortstop and a game each at second and third base. He recorded hits in six games and multiple hits in five games on his way to a .464 average, two home runs, five RBIs and five runs scored. In his second career at bat on Tuesday, Schmitt took two-time All-Star Patrick Corbin deep to left center for his first career hit. He was the youngest Giant to homer in his MLB debut since six-time All-Star Will Clark in 1986. He singled in his next at-bat. Schmitt singled and doubled on Wednesday, scoring both times. On Thursday, Schmitt was responsible for the first three runs in a 6-2 San Francisco victory. Schmitt went four for four as he hit a two-run shot to left in the second inning, singled in the fourth and seventh and knocked an RBI double in the ninth. With the performance, he joined Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio as the second player in MLB history to have eight hits, four RBIs and four runs scored in his first three games. He also tied Hall of Famer Willie McCovey with the most hits in the first three games in franchise history with nine. Schmitt also became the first shortstop in MLB history to begin his career with three straight multi-hit games with an extra-base hit in each game. In addition, he is the second player in MLB history with at least two hits and a run scored in each of his first three career games. Schmitt drove an RBI double on Friday before singling twice on Saturday to become the second player in Giants history with 11 hits in his first five games. He knocked two more hits to finish the week on Monday. Schmitt has also excelled on defense, recording two of the three hardest throws by an infielder this season.
 
Seattle infielder Ty France (2013-15) started all six of his team's games at first base. This week, he batted .346 with four RBIs and five runs scored. He bookended the week with big performances, knocking a two-run single on Tuesday and an RBI double on Monday night. This season, he is batting .277 with a .358 on-base percentage, two home runs, 20 RBIs, 24 runs scored and a stolen base.
 
Colorado infielder Alan Trejo (2015-17) started two of his three games at second base while also appearing at third base. During the week, he batted .250 with two RBIs and a stolen base. On Wednesday, Trejo singled twice, driving in a run in a 4-3 victory. This season, he is batting .250 with ten RBIs, six runs scored and two stolen bases.
 
Catcher Seby Zavala (2012-15) played in all six games behind the dish with five starts for the Chicago White Sox. He singled three times, driving in a run each on Tuesday and Saturday. This season, he has ten hits with two home runs, five RBIs, six runs scored and a stolen base.
 
Infielder David Hensley (2015-18) played three games at second base with two starts for Houston. He singled and scored on Tuesday and walked and scored on Wednesday. This season, Hensley has nine hits with a home run, three RBIs, 12 runs scored and a stolen base. 
 
Washington pitcher Stephen Strasburg (2007-09) is on the 60-Day IL.
 
In the NBA, forward McDaniels appeared for 36 seconds in Philadelphia's game six loss to Boston on Thursday but did not record any statistics. The Celtics won the series 4-3 to eliminate the 76ers.
 
On the PGA Tour, Piercy tied for 19th in the AT&T Byron Nelson at 16-under-par. Xander Schauffele (2013-15) is ranked fifth in the world and tenth in the FedEx Cup and has won seven PGA Tour events in his career. J.J. Spaun (2009-12) ranks 74th in the world and 61st in the FedEx Cup with one career PGA Tour victory. Piercy has four career PGA Tour wins. Next weekend, Spaun and Schauffele will compete in the PGA Championship in Rochester, New York, May 18-21.
