COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- San Diego State received the No. 2 seed in the 2023 Mountain West Softball Championship, the league announced Saturday. The Aztecs (32-15, 16-6 MW), who have won a MW-record eight regular-season titles, will look for their first conference tournament championship, which will take place May 11-13 at SDSU Softball Stadium.
 
The MW Softball Championship will be played for the first time since 2006 with the winner receiving the league's automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. Boise State (31-15, 16-5 MW) earned the top seed, followed by SDSU as both teams earned a spot in the double-elimination portion of the tournament. The other four teams - No. 3 seed Colorado State (31-20, 11-10 MW), No. 4 seed San Jose State (23-26, 11-11 MW), No. 5 seed Fresno State (24-33, 10-12 MW) and No. 6 seed Nevada (30-17, 10-12 MW) - will play an elimination game on Thursday for the right to join the Broncos and Aztecs.
 
San Diego State kicks off its play in the tournament at 6:30 p.m. PT Thursday against the winner of third-seeded Colorado State and sixth-seeded Nevada. Overall, there will be four games on Thursday, three on Friday and one (two if necessary) on Saturday.
