LOGAN, Utah -- The San Diego State softball team scored the first six runs of the game and cruised to a 6-3 win over Utah State to claim the weekend series Saturday afternoon in Logan, Utah.
 
The Aztecs (24-11, 8-4 MW) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth when Makena Brocki doubled in pinch runner Elianna Reyes.
 
SDSU then added four runs in the fifth, the first two coming on a throwing error by Aggie (12-17, 4-5 MW) starting pitcher Hailey McLean which allowed Macey Keester and Bella Espinoza to score. Mac Barbara followed with a single to score Jillian Celis and later scored on a fielder's choice by Brocki.
 
San Diego State added an insurance run in the sixth when Keester led off with a walk and scored on a Celis triple.
 
USU final got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning when Grisella Jimenez drew a bases loaded walk to score Claire Riley.
 
Utah State halved into the Aztec lead in the seventh with a two-run home run by Kya Pratt, but SDSU reliever Sarah Lehman struck out Riley swinging - her third of the inning - to end the game.
 
Barbara and Bella Espinoza had two hits apiece for San Diego State, which outhit the Aggies, 7-3. Keeser added two walks and two runs for the Aztecs.
 
Allie Light picked up the win for SDSU, allowing one run on two hits and three walks over six innings, while striking out four. Light improved to 7-4 on the season. Lehman gave up two runs on a hit and a walk in the seventh, striking out three.
 
THE NOTE
San Diego State improved to 19-1 on the season when outhitting its opponent.

The Aztecs improved to 17-4 on the season when scoring first.
