COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- San Diego State softball's Mac Barbara has been named the Mountain West Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It is the second weekly conference award of the season and third of the career for Barbara, the defending MW Player of the Year.
Barbara led the Aztecs (27-12, 11-5 MW) to a 3-1 record last week, all against league competition. Barbara batted .600 (6-for-10) with two home runs, four RBIs, three runs, four walks, a stolen base, a 1.200 slugging percentage and a .714 on-base mark. The Long Beach, California, native had at least one hit in all four games and two hits in two games.
Barbara was 2-for-2 with a home run, three RBIs and two walks in SDSU's 6-0 win in the opener over UNLV on Wednesday night. Barbara followed with a solo homer in San Diego State's 5-1 victory over the Rebels in the nightcap on Wednesday night. In a 10-1, six-inning triumph on Saturday at Nevada, Barbara was 2-for-3 with a run and an intentional walk. Barbara ended her week with a single, walk and stolen base in a 7-2 loss to the Wolf Pack on Sunday.
On the season, Barbara is hitting .376 (41-for-109) with 10 home runs, 37 RBIs and a .725 slugging percentage, all team bests. Barbara also has added 22 runs, eight doubles, 21 walks and a .478 on-base mark.
The Aztecs play host to New Mexico this weekend (April 21-23) at SDSU Softball Stadium with games set for 6 p.m. PT Friday, 4 p.m. PT Saturday and noon PT Sunday.
