SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women's tennis earned a comeback win on Wednesday afternoon, beating Furman 4-3 at the Aztec Tennis Center. The Aztecs dropped the doubles point before winning four singles matches to earn the win on Wednesday.

Down two athletes in the usual singles rotation, and down 3-2 overall with two matches to play, SDSU's Tamara Arnold on court one and Alicia Melosch entered their third sets in their respective matches. Arnold had cruised to a 6-2 win in her first set before falling in her second 6-4, while Melosch had done the opposite dropped her first set and won her second set to force a third set. On court one, Arnold then went back-and-forth with her opponent and her match was tied 5-5 in the third set, while over on the third court the same had happened to Melosch, as her match was tied 5-5 and could have gone either way as well.

Arnold then earned a 7-5 win in her third set on court one to even the match at 3-3, while Melosch kept battling on court three. She fell behind 5-6 before retying the match after a long rally at 6-6, and forcing a tiebreaker. In that tiebreaker she earned the Aztecs the match clinching point with a 7-3 tiebreaker win, earning the Aztecs (5-4) a 4-3 win over Furman (5-10).

Earlier in the match it was the usual doubles lineup for the Aztecs and the point was hotly contested.  Andreea Velcea and Andjela Skrobonja earned the first win on court three for SDSU, 6-2, which was quickly followed up by Pennings and Schulson of Furman earning a win on court two 6-2. The action on court one was intense with the match having to go to a tiebreaker to settle things, and ultimately Dawson and Snyder of Furman took down Rania Azziz and Melosch 7-6 (7-4) to claim the doubles point for Furman, and a 1-0 lead in the match.

As for singles play the Aztecs used a brand new lineup. Arnold moved up to the one spot, Detkovksaya moved up to the two slot, and Melosch played at the No. 3 spot. The Aztecs rounded out their order with Azziz at the four, Cecile Morin at the five spot, and Julia Jordan made her season debut at the six slot.

In singles play Detkovskaya dominiated again. She earned another straight sets victory on Wednesday, winning 6-2, 6-0 and only dropped two games the entire match, tying things up at 1-1. Azziz then fell on court four, falling 6-1, 6-4 and Jordan also lost in her match, 6-4, 6-1, and Furman held a 3-1 advantage with three matches to go. Morin then earned a win for the Aztecs on court five, dispatching her opponent in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 to make it a 3-2 match with two courts to play. The Aztecs then ran out 4-3 winners courtesy of Arnold and Melosch.
