Four Aztecs Compete in Platform at NCAA Zone Meet

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – San Diego State's Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez advanced to the finals of the platform event on Tuesday to lead a delegation of four Aztec student-athletes at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.

A fifth-year senior, Lechuga Gonzalez finished in 15th place with 476.00 points on the day, racking up 248.70 points in the finals to climb two spots from the 17th position after the preliminary round.

The rest of the SDSU contingent was unable to qualify for the final round, however, as sophomore Valentina Lopez Arevalo placed 20th in the opening session with 213.70 points, missing the cut by just 2.10 points, while freshman Taylor Konopacke was slotted 29th with 188.10 in her first NCAA Zone E appearance.

The Aztecs were also represented by sophomore Emma Duggan, who finished in the 31st spot with 181.75 points.

San Diego State wraps up competition at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships on Wednesday with the 1-meter springboard event. The Aztecs'  Lopez Arevalo and Lechuga Gonzalez will join Summer Westmoreland in the preliminary round, which is slated to begin at 11:30 a.m. PT to be followed immediately by the finals.

Divers that finish in the top six for the 1-meter springboard will automatically qualify for NCAA Championships, scheduled for March 15-18 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
