COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- San Diego State softball's Sarah Lehman has been named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It is the first career weekly MW award for the Iowa City, Iowa, native, who previously played at DePaul (2022) and Iowa (2019-21).
Lehman won both games she pitched in last weekend at the San Diego Classic, going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 10 innings, striking out nine and starting two Aztec shutouts. The right-hander went the first 8 1/3 innings of play without allowing a hit and allowed just two for the weekend, yielding a .065 batting average. Out of the 35 batters she faced, only six reached base safely (two hits, two walks, two hit batters) for a .171 on-base percentage
In a 5-0 shutout over Long Beach State on Friday, Lehman tossed five scoreless and hitless innings to earn the win, allowing just a hit batter and a walk to consecutive batters with two outs in the top of the fourth inning, while striking out five. In a 2-0 shutout over 2022 NCAA tournament team Boston Univ. on Saturday, she pitched five scoreless frames with just two hits allowed and one walk, striking out four.
On the season, Lehman is 6-1 with a 1.62 ERA in 34 2/3 innings. She has struck out 36 and limited opponents to a .162 average, while combined for three shutouts in her 11 appearances.
