SAN DIEGO – The No. 23-ranked San Diego State water polo team, having played its first 12 games of the 2023 campaign on the road, plays its home and conference opener on Saturday at Aztec Aquaplex against the No. 8-ranked Fresno State Bulldogs. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. PT.

About the Aztecs
• San Diego State holds a 3-9 record, with 10 of its 12 games coming against top-25 teams and of its remaining two games, one came against the No. 1 ranked team in Division III. 
• The Aztecs are paced offensively by freshman Claudia Valdes who leads the team in shots (38), goals (16), assists (13), and points (29). In addition, the native of Madrid, Spain, tops SDSU with 17 steals and seven field blocks.
• Among players who average at least 2.0 shots per game, senior Amanda Legaspi leads the team in shot percentage at 46.9 percent and she leads the squad with 20 exclusions drawn.
• Freshmen Tiaare Ahovelo and Mandy Langerlof have played nearly all the minutes in goal.  Ahovelo, has played 216 minutes with a 1-4 record and a goals against average of 13.19 and a 38.6 save percentage. Her 56 saves top the squad and she has four assists and four steals.  Lagerlof is 2-5 in 163 minutes. Her GAA is 13.94 with a 42.7 save percentage and she has added one steal and one assist.

Inside the Matchup
• In the all-time series, the Bulldogs hold a 5-3 advantage and have won each of the last four meetings.
• San Diego State has never lost to Fresno State at the Aquaplex (2-0).
• Fresno State enters the week with a 7-7 record and will play at California Baptist on Friday ahead of its game in San Diego.
• Fresno State's record includes a 15-7 win over the Aztecs at the Triton Invite on February 3.
• In the Bulldogs wins, it has outscored SDSU 68-to-42 (+5.2 goals per game) and in the Aztecs' victories they have outscored Fresno State 33-to-28 (+1.7 goals per win).
