Aztecs fall to Drexel 9-5

SAN DIEGO – The Aztec lacrosse team (5-7) fell to Drexel (7-3) 9-5 Tuesday afternoon. SDSU stayed with the Dragons through the first half but couldn't maintain pace through the second.

SDSU was once again led in scoring by Deanna Balsama, who netted two goals, while Sydney Wolfington, Cailin Young, and Sara Toner added one each.

The Aztecs set off to an early lead of 3-0 in the first four minutes of the game but were unable but to maintain the lead as Drexel scored eight unanswered goals.

Drexel outshot SDSU 35-26 and 28-22 in shots on goal. They also had a 12-6 advantage over the Aztecs in draw controls.

Deanna Balsama scored twice while the other Aztec goals came from Sydney Wolfington, Cailin Young, and Sara Toner. Sydney Wolfington, Emma Betts, and Kate Christos each contributed one assist.
Cailin Young led the team with four ground balls and three draw controls.

Goalkeeper Sam Horan had 19 saves on the day.
