COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State's Maddox Haley (La Mesa, Calif./Madison HS) was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week for the period ending March 19, as announced Monday by the league office.

With his award, Haley earned his first career conference weekly honor and the Aztecs third of the season after Poncho Ruiz and Drew Giannini received MW Player of the Week and MW Freshman of the Week recognition on March 6, respectively.

A 6-2 outfielder, Haley appeared in three of four games vs. UConn last weekend, batting .333 (3-9) with three RBIs and two runs scored. The Madison High alumnus also drew a pair of walks for a .455 on-base percentage in the series.

In the Aztecs' thrilling 4-2 victory over the Huskies on March 17, Haley delivered some insurance with an RBI single to cap an eighth-inning surge, helping the Scarlet and Black snap a four-game slide. He also made two put-outs for a clean 1.000 fielding percentage.

The following night, Haley went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a career-high two runs scored in SDSU's 12-6 setback. His two hits in that contest also matched a season best. in that contest.

In the weekend finale on March 19, Haley drew a bases-loaded walk to account for his third RBI on the weekend.

For the season, Haley has started four of 11 games, batting .318 (7-22) with four RBIs and three runs scored and four walks. Against Hawai'i in the Tony Gwynn Legacy on Feb. 27, he provided the eventual game-winning run with a pinch-hit RBI single, as the Aztecs emerged with a 3-2 victory.

San Diego State will be back in action with a scheduled midweek road game at crosstown adversary San Diego on Tuesday, March 21, before it returns to The Mesa to open a three-game Mountain West series against Air Force, March 24-26, at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
