SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women's tennis, currently on a three-match winning streak, hosts Dartmouth at the Aztec Tennis Center on Tuesday. First serve is set for 2 p.m. PT. The Aztecs head into the match with an overall record of 7-4.
The Aztecs won their match last week over No. 37 Purdue with a 4-3 scoreline. SDSU has now won each of it's last three matches by a 4-3 margin, and four of the teams seven wins have come by that scoreline. The Aztecs have now won four out of their last six matches, and have picked up wins over four ranked squads. The Scarlet and Black have also had two sweeps this spring dual season, a 4-0 sweep of Long Beach State and a 7-0 sweep against crosstown foe UC San Diego back in February. SDSU's four other wins on the year included three squads who were ranked in the ITA rankings at the time in No. 40 Alabama, No. 54 Rice, and No. 61 Tulsa, as well as a win against Furman. The 4-3 win over Alabama was head coach Peter Mattera's 400th career win on The Mesa. Including Friday's match, SDSU has played seven of their 11 matches against ranked opponents to begin the 2023 dual season.
The Aztecs have multiple players who are enjoying a great start to the spring campaign, including No. 108 Dariya Detkovskaya who moved to the No. 2 slot and is on a 5-match winning streak. Over the course of the dual season Detkovskaya is 9-1, and has won three of her last four singles matches in straight sets. Andjela Skrobonja has also started strongly, and is an impressive 6-2 on court one to begin the season. Additionally, the doubles team of Andreea Velcea and Andjela Skrobonja have won all five matches together since being paired together in February.
As for Dartmouth, the Big Green enter Tuesday's match 3-8. They are led by head coach Bob Dallis, who is in his 21st season in charge of the program, earned his 200th victory at Dartmouth during the ECAC Indoor Championships in 2022. All-time the Aztecs are 2-3 against Dartmouth, with the most recent matchup being a year ago when SDSU swept Dartmouth 4-0.
