SAN DIEGO – The Aztec lacrosse team (1-5) dropped its midweek matinee matchup against No. 6 Stony Brook (3-0) 19-3 Wednesday afternoon. SDSU was led by Deanna Balsama with two goals.

"We played a little timid at first. Our strength is our team. They truly love each other, and this is not going to define us. This is a showing of a long month that we just had and pretty beat up right now with some injuries and some other things. We didn't show up," Head coach Kylee White said after the game. "We are challenging them right now to overcome some adversity and decide how we want this season to go starting on Friday. Really figuring out what this team is about."

The Sea Wolves went to work early, scoring 10 goals in the first quarter. Emma Betts scored first for the Aztecs with a goal at the 6:04 mark in the first quarter.

Stony Brook tacked on an additional six goals between the second and third period, holding a 16-1 lead over SDSU.

Deanna Balsama broke through and scored for the Aztecs in the fourth quarter at the 7:18 mark. Balsama added another with 1:19 to go.

Stony Brook outshot SDSU 38-8 and 29-8 in shots on goal. They also had a 20-6 advantage over the Aztecs in draw controls.

The Sea Wolves had 11 players score and were led by Ellie Masera with four goals followed by Jolie Creo, Jaden Hampel, Kailyn Hart, Morgan Mitchell, and Kelsi Lonigro with two each
