SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State men's tennis team faced the No. 35-ranked Tulane Green Wave at the Aztec Tennis Center on Saturday, March 18 as part of the San Diego Spring Invitational. The Aztecs took a couple of games in singles play but could not get on the scoreboard in the 4-0 loss.
The Scarlet and Black drop to 1-8 this season, while Tulane (10-6) moves into double digits in wins.
On the top singles court, Johannes Seeman (4-4) went up against No. 80 Fynn Kuenkler. He dropped the first set to his ranked opponent 6-3 but bounced back to take the second 6-4. The match was called before the start of the third.
Playing on the No. 2 court, Chikaya Sato (2-6) drew Luka Petrovic. After falling 6-2 in the first set, he took over, winning the second 6-3 and jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the third when the match was called.
Andre Saleh (1-5) played on the No. 6 court against Sam Scherer and lost in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.
On the fourth court, Bora Sengul (0-6) fell to Alex Bancila 6-4, 6-3.
Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice (1-3) played on the No. 5 court and was dropped 6-1, 6-2 by Rafael de Alba.
Playing on the No. 3 court, Mandma (1-4) faced Billy Suarez in a tight match. He sent the first set to a tiebreaker but was bested 7-6 (5) and led 2-0 in the second when the match was decided.
In doubles, on the top court, the No. 80-ranked combo of Seeman and Sato faced the pairing of Charlie Barry and Benji Jacobson. The SDSU duo fell 6-3. On the third court, Gonzalez Fitzmaurice and Mathieu Josserand lost to Suarez and de Alba 6-2. Mandma and Sengul trailed Kuenkler and Petrovic 5-4 on the second court when Tulane clinched the doubles point.
San Diego State will conclude the San Diego Spring Invitational with a matchup against No. 25-ranked Memphis tomorrow at the Aztec Tennis Center.
