Swimmers Continue Action at NCAA Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – San Diego State's Alex Roberts and Christiana Williams competed in a pair of preliminary events on Friday at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships inside at the University of Tennessee's Allan Jones Aquatic Center.

Swimming in the 100 backstroke, Alex Roberts finished in the 40th position with a time of 53.07, while Christiana Williams was 45th in the 100 breaststroke after touching the wall at 1:00.73.

As a result of those placements, the Aztecs were unable to advance a swimmer to the final session for the second day in a row after Kristina Murphy was slotted 57th in the 200 individual medley on Thursday.

Roberts was also selected to participate in the 100 butterfly prior to the national meet, while Murphy was invited to swim in the 400 individual medley, but neither competed in those respective preliminary events on Friday.

San Diego State wraps up its excursion to the NCAA Championships on Saturday, as Williams and Murphy are slated to race in the 200 breaststroke, while Roberts will swim the 200 backstroke.

Williams qualified for NCAA Championships in the 200 breaststroke after establishing a conference and school record with a swim of 2:08.23 during the first day of time trials at the Mountain West Championships on Feb. 15, which ranks 18th nationally. She later captured the gold medal in the "A" finals of the same event at the league meet on Feb. 18 after clocking in at 2:08.86.

Murphy also punched her ticket to the national meet in the 200 breaststroke after finishing second in the "A" finals just behind Williams at the conference meet with a collegiate-fast time of 2:09.28, which ranks 29th nationally this season and third on the program's all-time performance list.

Meanwhile, Roberts clinched a spot the NCAA Championships in the 200 backstroke after capturing the gold medal at the Mountain West meet with a conference and school-record time of 1:52.89, which ranks 21st in the country,

ESPN+ will provide broadcast coverage for both Saturday sessions, with preliminaries scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT, followed by the finals at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT.
