SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State men's tennis team is scheduled for a busy weekend with three home matches as part of the San Diego Spring Invitational. They will face No. 7 Harvard on Friday, March 17 to start the tournament at 3 p.m. PT with matches on Saturday, March 18 and Sunday, March 19, to be determined by earlier results.
The Scarlet and Black (1-6) will attempt to avenge their 4-0 loss to the Crimson (8-3) on Monday, when Harvard was ranked No. 10. Harvard stayed at the Aztec Tennis Center after that match to win 4-2 against UC San Diego on their way to a doubleheader sweep. SDSU was scheduled to take on No. 54 Wisconsin on Wednesday, but the match was canceled due to rain.
San Diego State is led by the No. 80-ranked doubles duo of Chikaya Sato and Johannes Seeman. Harvard has two highly ranked singles players in No. 11 Henry von der Schulenburg and No. 27 Harris Walker. Against the Aztecs on Monday, von der Schulenberg did not play while Walker took down Seeman 6-3, 6-3.
The event features an eight-team bracket where the winner of each matchup faces the winner in the opposite game while the losers of each matchup also face each other.
On Saturday, SDSU will play either No. 35 Tulane or No. 36 Virginia Commonwealth. Tulane and VCU face off at the Aztec Tennis Center at 9 a.m. PT on Friday.
On Sunday, the Aztecs could face No. 25 Memphis, No. 34 San Diego, No. 51 Princeton or have a rematch with No. 70 Utah. The Utes shut out SDSU 7-0 in Los Angeles on Feb. 18.
San Diego State will finish up its nonconference schedule with a match against No. 37 UTSA on Friday, March 31 at the Aztec Tennis Center.
