SAN DIEGO – In its final tune up before the conference championships, the San Diego State diving delegation will travel to the Grand Canyon State this weekend for the Lumberjack Invitational, Feb. 3-5, at the NAU Aquatic and Tennis Complex in Flagstaff, Arizona.
The three-day meet commences for the Aztecs on Friday with the preliminaries of the 3-meter springboard at 10:30 a.m. MST, with the top 18 finishers advancing to the finals, which are slated to begin approximately 15 minutes after the preliminary round is complete.
Saturday's action features same format for the 1-meter springboard with another 10:30 a.m. MST start, while Sunday's platform event gets underway at 9 a.m. MST with a single round of dives.
In addition, a team competition consisting of three divers will be conducted on Sunday 30 minutes following the conclusion of the platform event.
Along with host Northern Arizona, SDSU will square off against fellow Mountain West member New Mexico this weekend, as well as competitors from Idaho and New Mexico State.
Results on all three days may be accessed on DiveMeets.com.
On Jan. 27, the Aztecs' full swim and dive squad recorded its 50th consecutive dual-meet victory after knocking off the University of San Diego.
SDSU divers played a key role in that win, as Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez captured the event title in the 3-meter springboard with a season-high 320.78 points, which surpassed the NCAA Zone qualifying score. The Aztecs posted the top-five finishers in the competition, as Emma Duggan landed in the runner-up position, followed in succession by Valentina Lopez Arevalo, Olivia Zamudio and Summer Westmoreland.
In the 1-meter springboard, the Scarlet and Black also grabbed the top three spots with NCAA Zone qualifying marks, as Lopez Arevalo emerged triumphant with a season-high 298.35 points, while Lechuga Gonzalez (278.35 pts) took second, followed by Westmoreland (271.35 pts).
For her efforts vs. the Toreros, Lechuga Gonzalez garnered Mountain West Diver of the Week accolades for the fourth time this season and the 11th occasion of her career.
At the Lumberjack Diving Invitational last season, Lechuga Gonzalez claimed event titles in both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard, while Lopez Arevalo took home the crown in the platform competition with a career-best 294.86 points, which ranks second on the Aztecs' all-time charts.
Following this weekend's meet, the entire San Diego State swim and dive team will return to the competition pool for the Mountain West Championships, Feb. 15-18, in Houston, Texas.
