SAN DIEGO – The Aztec lacrosse team hosts Ohio State for their 2023 home opener on Friday at 5 p.m. PT. The Aztecs will then welcome the California Golden Bears for a Sunday afternoon showdown at the Aztec Lacrosse Field at Noon PT. Both games will be streamed on the Aztec Lacrosse Youtube stream.

Aztec Tidbits:
• The Aztecs (0-2) opened their 2023 campaign on the road with two losses, falling to No.16 Notre Dame, 18-2, and Marquette, 20-13.
• Deanna Balsama and Brook Waddell lead the team in scoring with five goals each on the season.
• Aztec Goalkeeper Sam Horan has a combined 29 saves on the season.
• Five Aztecs, Katelyn Murphy, Mia Kohn, Emma Betts, Kate Christos, and Emma Betts made scoring contributions in Sunday's contest at Marquette. Christos' goal was the first of her SDSU career.

Season Preview Tidbits:
•Cailin Young and Shelby Hook along with Sam Horan will be the team captains this season.
• SDSU has 8 newcomers (six freshmen and two transfers).
• Head coach Kylee White (12th season), the only head coach in program history, received a five-year contract extension in the fall of 2022.

Opponent Notebook (Ohio State)
The Buckeyes opened their season 2-0 with victories over Robert Morris (18-6) and Temple (10-9)...They are 3-0 in the last three matchups against the Aztecs (2012, 2013, 2019). . .They have three Big Ten players to watch in Nicole Ferrara, Chloe Johnson, and Ava Keethler… They are coming off a 2022 season record of 9-7 overall, 2-4 conference…

Opponent Notebook (California)
The Golden Bears opened their season 1-2 with a win over Lindenwood (17-9) and two losses to Central Michigan (12-15) and Stanford (8-20)...  They are 3-9 all-time against the Aztecs, the last match-up being a 6-15 loss in Berkeley, Calif. . . Senior Midfielder Maya Lawliss received Pac-12 honors as Offensive Player of the Week after her performance against Lindenwood and Central Michigan...They were picked to finish sixth in the Pac-12 preseason poll . . .
