SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's golf team wrapped up the first day of the San Diego State Classic at their home course The Farms Monday. Through 36 holes, SDSU has a 625 (313-312, +49) and sits in 11th place.
The Aztecs were led by Andrea Gomez's 154. After a slow start in the first round, Gomez rebounded to par 11 of her final 12 holes. Then in her second round, she birdied a couple of par threes and finished with a team-best 75.
April Ranches led the Aztecs in the first round with a 76 and then shot a 79 in her second 18.
Bernice Olivarez Ilas shot a 78 in both rounds. In both rounds, she had four bogeys and one double-bogey.
Stephanie Barbaglia, who was playing as an individual in her first collegiate tournament, carded a 78 in her first 18, aided by two birdies, and then an 82 in the second round.
Sammy Lee and Anna Lina Otten each shot a 162. Lee had an 80 followed by an 82, while Otten shot an 81 in both rounds.
Anika Sato, who was playing as an individual, shot an 82 in both rounds.
Iowa State is in the lead after 36 holes and shooting a 592 (+16).
