SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's golf team kicks off their spring season on Monday when they host the San Diego State Classic at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., the Aztecs' home course.

The 54-hole tournament will get underway Monday with 36 holes beginning with an 8 a.m. PT shotgun start. The final 18 will be played Tuesday, also with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

The tournament features a 12-team field where four are ranked in Golfstat's top 50: No. 23 Iowa State, No. 27 Houston, No. 40 Georgia and No. 50 Denver. Also competing is BYU, Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon State, UC Davis, UNLV and Washington State.

The Aztecs will roll out a starting five of Bernice Olivarez IlasApril Ranches, Sammy Lee, Anna Lina Otten, and Andrea Gomez. Additionally Anika Sato and newcomer Stephanie Barbaglia will also be playing as an individual.
 
Olivarez Ilas (Ayala Alabang, Philippines) led the Aztecs in three of their four fall tournaments. She posted career-best 18 and 54-hole scores in her last tournament, carding a 211 at the Hurricane Invitational with a 67 in her second round.

Ranches (San Diego), a fifth-year senior, shot a career-best 219 in the fall month at Denver's Ron Moore Intercollegiate and tied a career-low with a 71 in her final round at the Hurricane Invitational. 

Lee (San Ramon, Calif.) started all four tournaments for the Aztecs in the fall. She is also coming off a career-best performance after shooting a 223 at the Hurricane Invitational.

Otten (Neuss, Germany) has started 20 straight tournaments for the Aztecs and shot a career best 221 at the Stanford Intercollegiate in the fall. 
 
Gomez (Huixquilucan, Mexico) will be making her first start since the 2020-21 season. She shot a 225 at the Hurricane Invitational, her lone appearance in the fall.

Sato (Utsunomiya, Japan) is averaging 74.5 strokes per 18, good for second on the team. She tied for eighth at the Hurricane Invitational with a career-best 213.

Barbaglia, a freshman from Johannesburg, South Africa who joined the Aztecs just a few weeks ago, will be playing in her first collegiate tournament.

This is the 11th time SDSU has hosted this tournament. They won it in 2020 when it was a match play format and Sara Kjellker tied for second in 2021.

Monday's forecast will be partly cloudy with highs in the low-60s. Tuesday will be cooler with cloudy skies and highs in the mid-50s.
