Aztecs Fall at No. 16 Notre Dame 18-2

South Bend, Ind. – The Aztec lacrosse team (0-1) dropped its season opener at No. 16 Notre Dame (1-0) 18-2 Friday evening. SDSU was led by Brook Waddell and Deanna Balsama with one goal each. 

The Fighting Irish went to work early, scoring eight goals in the first quarter. Brook Waddell responded with one of her own with a little over four minutes to go in the quarter. Notre Dame tacked on another four in the second with a scoreless quarter from the Aztecs.

Deanna Balsama added another for SDSU in the third quarter on a free position shot.
 
Notre Dame outshot SDSU 39-13 and 29-11 in shots on goal. They also had a 19-4 advantage over the Aztecs in draw controls.
 
The Fighting Irish had 11 players score and were led by Madison Ahern with four goals and Kasey Choma with three.
 
Aztec goalkeeper Sam Horan had 11 saves, while Notre Dame's Lilly Callahan had 9. Cailin Young and Hayley Anderson led SDSU with turnovers caused at 3 and 2 respectively.

THE NOTE
No. 16 Notre Dame is the first of four ranked opponents the Aztecs will face in the 2023 season.
