SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State men's tennis team will play for the first time in three weeks when it faces the Santa Clara Broncos on Saturday, February 11, at the Aztec Tennis Center. The matches are scheduled to get underway at 2 p.m. PT.

The Scarlet and Black (1-1) is looking to build on momentum from its 5-2 victory over San Francisco on January 21, in the team's first match on The Mesa this season. Meanwhile, the Broncos (3-2) played twice in Eugene, Ore., last weekend, falling 6-1 to Oregon on Friday and sweeping Seattle University 4-0 on Saturday.

In the all-time matchup between these two schools, SDSU is 6-3. The last time they played was during the pandemic shortened 2021 season, when the Broncos came into the Aztec Tennis Center and knocked off San Diego State 4-2.

Johannes Seeman, the team wins leader in singles during the fall season, has remained a force to be reckoned with at the top of the San Diego State lineup this spring. He earned a 6-2, 6-4 win over Stevie Gould of San Francisco, for consecutive victories in straight sets to begin dual play.

The only other Aztec who has gone 2-0 in singles to start the spring, Chikaya Sato, played to a consistent 6-2, 6-2 win over San Francisco's Davide Cortimiglia, after a 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 win in the team's matches against Arkansas on January 13.

Alexander Mandma (1-1) made it into the win column this spring with a 6-3, 6-4 win in straight sets against Johan Garpered of San Francisco.

In his dual season debut, Andre Saleh (1-0) scored the clinching point for the Scarlet and Black with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat of USF's Luka Kalenic.

After facing consecutive West Coast Conference opponents in San Francisco and Santa Clara, San Diego State will make it three in a row during next weekend's trip to Los Angeles. The Aztecs have their first road match at Loyola Marymount on Friday afternoon, February 17, before facing Pac-12 opponent Utah the next day, in a neutral site match also at LMU. Since 1989, SDSU has gone 72-63 against WCC opponents.
