SEATTLE, Wash.- The Aztecs are set to open their 2023 indoor campaign on January 27 at the UW Invitational and Dempsey Indoor Arena.
Following their appearance in Seattle, the team will return to the Pacific Northwest to compete in the WSU Open and Combined Events Meet in Spokane, Washington February 2-4. The team looks to compete in three indoor meets before competing at the Mountain West Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, NM in late February.
The Aztecs are coming off an excellent 2022 season, where they took home their second-consecutive outdoor Mountain West championship and fourth out of the past five titles.
Following their conference title victory, the Aztecs competed at the NCAA Nationals. Four Aztecs earned second-team All-American honors for their performances at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 4x400 meters for the second time in the past three years.
The Aztecs return 27 members of the 2022 squad while welcoming six freshmen and five transfers.
Head Coach Shelia Burrell, six-time Mountain West Coach of the Year, enters her 14th season on the Mesa.
Aztec Tidbits
• The Aztecs will have two meets in both Washington (Seattle and Pullman) and New Mexico (both in Albuquerque) during the 2023 Indoor Season.
• Many Power 5 schools will be in attendance including Oregon State and Washington.
• Field Events will begin for the Aztecs at 4pm PT starting with pole vault, followed by triple jump and high jump at 5pm PT, and weight throw at 5:30pm PT.
• Running events will begin with 60m hurdles at 3pm PT followed by 5K at 3:40pm, 5000m at 5pm PT, 200m at 5:40pm PT, and distance medley at 6:30pm PT.
•This will be SDSU's first of two Indoor meets in Washington. The second will be at the WSU Open and Combined Events Meet in Spokane February 2-4.
