SAN DIEGO -- One former Aztec reached base at a .500 clip with two home runs and played in the MLB All-Star Game while another finished in the top 5 in a golf tournament.
In the MLB, infielder Ty France (2013-15) represented the American League in the 2022 MLB All-Star Game. He came off the bench and received an at-bat while playing two innings at first base. France started all four games following the All-Star Break at first base for Seattle. Last week, he batted .400 with a .500 on-base percentage, a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored. He currently leads the American League with 16 hit-by-pitches. In the first game of the second half, on Friday night, France took Houston starter Jose Urquidy deep in the sixth inning for his 12th homer of the season. He also closed his week on a high note, going 3-for-3 with another solo home run on Monday night in a 4-3 win over Texas. On the season, France is batting .312 with a .382 on-base percentage, 13 home runs, 51 RBis and 38 runs.
Catcher Seby Zavala (2012-15) started at catcher in two games for the Chicago White Sox over the weekend. Last week, he knocked a pair of singles. So far this season, Zavala is batting .286, with a .333 on-base percentage, two home runs, 15 RBIs and 12 runs. Outfielder Greg Allen (2012-14) came off the 60-Day IL for Pittsburgh to make his 2022 season debut. He played a pair of games in center field over the weekend, moving to left in Saturday's debut, in which he recorded his first base hit of the season, a single to left field. Allen reached on an error and scored his first run of the season to tie the Marlins at 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth on Sunday. Washington pitcher Stephen Strasburg (2007-09) is on the 60-Day IL and not expected to return this season.
On the PGA Tour, Scott Piercy (1999-2001) tied for fourth in the 3M Open at 13-under-par after leading after the first, second and third rounds. Xander Schauffele (2013-15) is ranked sixth in the world and fourth in the FedEx Cup, and J.J. Spaun (2009-12) is ranked 33rd in the FedEx Cup. This weekend, Piercy and Spaun will compete in the Rocket Mortgage Classic, in Detroit, Michigan
