SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's basketball team (7-2) returns home to host Sacramento State (6-1) Wednesday at 11 a.m. for their annual Field Trip game.
 
Aztec Tidbits
• Approximately 1,400 children from local elementary schools will be in attendance.
• SDSU's 7-2 start is the Aztecs' best since the 2007-08 season.
• The Aztecs' seven non-conference wins are their most since the 2013-13 season.
• SDSU had a seven-game win streak snapped on Sunday when they fell 65-56 to San Francisco at the Chase Center. That win streak was their longest since the 2012-13 team won 17 in a row.
• The Aztecs committed a season-high 25 turnovers against USF and allowed a season-worst 18 points in the fourth quarter. The Dons ended the game on an 8-0 run after SDSU had closed the deficit to one point with 2:30 left.
• Sunday's game vs. USF was the first time this season that SDSU's opponent has had more steals than them. The Aztecs are averaging 12.2 steals per game, the 23rd-most in the country.
• SDSU has 110 steals on the year while their opponents have just 62.
• Mercedes Staples led the team in points (13), rebounds (9) and assists (4) while playing 39 minutes.
• The Aztecs are top 20 in the nation in points allowed (14th, 51.7) and FG% defense (20th, 33.9%).
• SDSU also leads the Mountain West in three-point percentage defense, holding opponents to 24.1% from three (29th in the nation).
• The Aztecs are 6-0 at home this season. Since the beginning of last year SDSU is 16-5 inside Viejas Arena.
• SDSU trails only UNLV (7-1), last year's regular season and tournament champions, in the Mountain West standings.
• The Aztecs have scored at least 30 points in the paint in six of their last eight games.
• Sophia Ramos (San Antonio, Texas) is one of three players in the nation with at least 1,600 points, 550 rebounds and 400 assists in her career.
• Ramos is in the top five in program history in seven statistical categories including made points (4th), threes (4th), assists (4th) and made free throws (4th).
Kim Villalobos (Los Angeles) surpassed 400 career points and 300 career rebounds against San Francisco Sunday.
• Mercedes Staples (Centerville, Utah) is shooting 43.9 percent from three on the year and 38.8 percent in her SDSU career, good for second in program history. She is third in Mountain West in made threes (18) and three-point percentage (.421). She is also third in steals (19).
Abby Prohaska (Liberty Township, Ohio) is a perfect 21-for-21 from the free throw line. She scored a career-high 23 points at UC San Diego last Thursday, which is the most points by an Aztec in a game this year.
 
So Much Depth
• SDSU has six players in their fifth year of college.
• The Aztecs have 10 players averaging 15 or more minutes per game and only one (Mercedes Staples) playing more than 30 per game.
• SDSU has six players averaging between 7.8 and 11.5 points per game.
• The Aztecs have already had eight players score in double-digits.
• Six different players have led the team in scoring in a game (including ties).
• Seven different Aztecs are averaging at least one steal per game.
• SDSU has used four different starting lineup combinations and eight different players have started.
• Five Aztecs average between 4.0 and 6.0 rebounds.
• Three different players have had a double-double (Khylee Pepe, Abby Prohaska and Kim Villalobos).
 
Season Accomplishments
• SDSU's 7-2 start is their best since the 2007-08 season.
• The Aztecs had back-to-back 50+ point wins (San Diego Christian and Antelope Valley) for the first time since 1984.
• SDSU had 27 steals against San Diego Christian, their most in a game in the Mountain West era (2000-present).
• SDSU held San Diego Christian to 30 points, the lowest point total they've held an opponent to since 2015, also against San Diego Christian (60-25).
• The Aztecs' two 50+ point victories were their largest margin of victory since Dec. 18, 2007, a 91-33 win over Navy.
• Against Seattle, Kim Villalobos became the first Aztec in five years (and just the sixth in the Mountain West era) to have at least seven made field goals, seven assists and three steals in a game.
• Yummy Morris (North Little Rock, Arkansas) won the Mountain West Player of the Week award on Nov. 28. She had a season-high 19 points against Seattle (Nov. 25) and averaged 15.5 points, 4.0 rebounds & 3.0 steals per game that week while shooting 65 percent from the floor.
• Mercedes Staples was a perfect 6-for-6 from three against Southeastern Louisiana (Nov. 15). to become the first Aztec in the Mountain West era to make six or more three-pointers without a miss.
Abby Prohaska was 12-for-12 from the free throw line vs. Antelope Valley (Nov. 12), making her just the second Aztec in the Mountain West era to make at least 12 free throws without a miss (Sophia Ramos, 16-16 vs. New Mexico 1-29-20).
• Three different Aztecs have had double-doubles this year, Khylee Pepe, Abby Prohaska and Kim Villalobos. It was the first career double-double for Pepe and Prohaska.
• Alex Crain had seven steals against San Diego Christian, the most by an Aztec in a game since Dec. 19, 2013 (Ahjalee Harvey vs. Miami Ohio).
• The Aztecs received votes in the preseason USA Today Coaches poll.
 
Opponent Notebook (Sacramento State)
• The Hornets are 6-1 on the year.
• They went 14-15 last year and 10-10 in the Big Sky
• After losing to UC Irvine 60-58 in their season opener, they have won six games in a row.
• They are coming off a 62-61 win over the Mountain West's Fresno State.
• They are shooting 48.3 percent from the field, 15th in the nation, and 38.4 percent from three, 21st in the country.
• They lead the Big Sky with 4.7 blocks per game.
• Kahlaijah Dean leads the team with 18.3 points and 5.3 assists per game.
• Isnelle Natabou leads the nation in field goal percentage (71.4%) and is 13th in rebounds per game (11.1). She has four double-doubles.
• Head coach Mark Campbell is in his second season with the Hornets. He spent the previous seven seasons as an assistant at Oregon, where he recruited Sabrina Ionescu.
 
 All-time Series (Sacramento State)
• The Aztecs are 4-1 all-time against Sacramento State.
• They last played in the 2014-15 season opener where SDSU won 99-91. In that game the Aztecs attempted a school record 49 three-pointers.
• The Hornets lone win against SDSU was the 2013-14 season opener, a 93-89 Sacramento State win.
• SDSU is 3-0 all-time against the Hornets at home.
• SDSU has averaged 82.4 points per game in their five meetings.
• Their first meeting was Dec. 16, 2001, a 72-51 SDSU win.
• The Aztecs are 28-8 all-time against schools currently in the Big Sky.
