Aztec Divers Shine on Day One at CBU Invite

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – San Diego State finds itself atop the team standings after advancing five competitors to the finals of the women's platform event on Friday at the CBU Lancer Diving Invitational.

The Aztecs flashed their depth on the first day of the meet, totaling 78 points to outdistance host California Baptist (45 pts) and UNLV (26 pts) at Marguerite Aquatics Complex.

Four SDSU divers posted NCAA Zone qualifying scores, as well as season-high marks, finishing within 10 points of one another in the individual standings.  

Leading the Scarlet and Black delegation was Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez, who finished third in the event after amassing 235.50 points, followed closely by Emma Duggan's fourth-place tally of 235.05 points, which also marked a collegiate best.

In addition, Jules Harrison landed in the fifth position with 230.75 points, while Taylor Konopacke was sixth after compiling 226.10 points of her own.

Rounding out the SDSU contingent was Summer Westmoreland, who placed eighth with 196.45 points in the final round.

The CBU Invitational concludes on Saturday at Lancer Aquatics Center in Riverside, California, where San Diego State will square off against divers from California Baptist and UC San Diego in 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events, starting at 10 a.m. PT.
