SEATTLE, Wash. – Former Aztec goalkeeper Jacob Castro was signed by the Seattle Sounders of the MLS as a Homegrown player. Castro's deal is for the 2023 season and includes club options for 2024-26.
"We couldn't be happier for Jacob Castro to sign with his hometown team, the Seattle Sounders," Head coach Ryan Hopkins said. "He has left a legacy that future Aztec goalkeepers will aspire to reach."
Castro (Spanaway, Wash.) became one of the best SDSU goalkeepers in recent years after transferring from Washington. He was named to the All-Pac-12 Team in back-to-back years, the first Aztec netminder to do that since All-American Tally Hall in 2005 and 2006.
This season as a team captain, Castro was also named to the United Soccer Coaches Far West Region Third Team.
In his two years at SDSU, he posted 10 shutouts in his 33 matches and totaled 112 saves. In 2021, he had a goals allowed average of 0.93 and save percentage of .805.
Prior to college, Castro attended the Seattle Sounders Academy and made appearances for the Tacoma Defiance, the Sounders' USL reserve team.
